July Newsletter 2023
July, 30 2023 |
August is the start of harvest in the northern hemisphere, a time for looking back on the season and assessing what went well, what should be improved next year, and what was beyond your control. In business, continuously assessing how things are going helps you make small corrections rather than waiting and having to make major course changes that can be costly and disruptive.
This month we talked about materiality assessments as a tool for integrating sustainability into business strategies, building trust with stakeholders, attracting responsible investors, and enhancing competitiveness. We also explored the benefits of a diverse board of directors, including increased innovation, better risk management, and increased stakeholder trust. Rounding out the month we reflected on ways to promote urban biodiversity, and global efforts to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions associated with shipping. Check out this month’s articles that explored these topics.

June Newsletter 2023

June was a busy month. In the northern hemisphere gardens needed snipping, thinning and weeding. On the work front, we looked back at the first half of the year to take stock of all that we had accomplished–and what remained to be done. At Clear Strategy, helping people with staying on track for their 2023 goals was top of mind. We also looked to the future, at what Paris has planned for the 2024 Olympics. Finally, we reviewed some troubling data on the state of the worldwide gender gap, which shows no sign of closing in our grandchildrens’ lifetimes. In fact, according to the World Economic Forum, it will take up to 169 years to reach parity. Another trend that caught our eye was the stagnation of population growth in parts of the world. Increased educational and professional opportunities for women are factors fueling this trend (and providing upward momentum for gender parity). However, decreases in population require serious governmental action in order to avoid problems like underfunded programs to support the elderly. Have a look at our Articles to learn more. At Clear Strategy last month we were thinking about many things, including the intersection of climate and financial risk. Short-term, acute climate risks include heat waves, floods, wildfires, and storms. These climate risks give rise to financial risks resulting from the damage to, or loss of, properties, infrastructure, agriculture, or life. If your company is exposed to climate risks that may lead to financial risks it behooves you – and your board of directors – to pay attention to both. Read more about the convergence of climate and financial risk in the first article featured below, by Lucas Gravina.
